Statement by Secretary of the Interior Bruce Babbitt: Dedicated Public Servants Deserve Better Than Angry Rhetoric
"In the lobby of the Interior Department headquarters, two plaques list the names of National Park Service employees and Fish and Wildlife Service employees who have died in the line of duty. When I see those names and when I consider the ultimate sacrifice each of the individuals made, I know that they and their colleagues throughout the Department deserve better than angry rhetoric.
"In our public discussions today, what we need is not divisiveness and inflammatory statements. What we instead need is a renewed focus on a fundamental American value: respect for our fellow citizens. What we instead need is a greater appreciation for the significant contributions made by dedicated public servants."
