The Secretary's remarks will focus on the President's national energy policy as well as the development of alternative and renewable energy sources. "A fundamental imbalance exists between our nation's energy consumption and domestic energy production," said Norton. "President Bush has laid out a comprehensive, long-term energy strategy to secure America's energy future that bridges this gap and addresses important environmental concerns." The Interior Department manages nearly one fifth of our nation's land. Along with other federal holdings, these lands provide one third of our domestically produced energy supply and promise vast untapped energy resources, including renewable sources such as wind, geothermal, biomass and hydro-power.
