
Department Of Interior Office of the SecretaryContact: John Wright For Imediate Release: May 1, 2003202-208-6416 Interior Announces Interagency Agreement On Tar Creek Superfund Site (WASHINGTON)-The Department of the Interior today announced the signing of an agreement creating a task force to address health, safety and environmental issues at the Tar Creek superfund site in Oklahoma.
The memorandum of understanding was signed today by Interior, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Army Corps of Engineers. Under this joint approach all federal agencies will coordinate with Indian Tribes, the state of Oklahoma, affected local governments and stakeholders to find solutions to problems posed by past mining activities at the site. Within one month of this agreement, the task force is required to meet and is to reach out to the affected parties soon thereafter.
