"Corps of Discovery II" Interagency Traveling Exhibit Launches Lewis and Clark Bicentennial on January 14 The nation's Bicentennial commemoration of the Lewis and Clark Expedition will begin in Charlottesville, Virginia, on January 14, 2003 with the debut of Corps of Discovery II: 200 Years to the Future. This touring federal interagency exhibition launches a four-year odyssey from Virginia to the Oregon coast for the 2003-2006 Bicentennial. WHO: Craig Manson, Assistant Secretary for Fish, Wildlife, & Parks, U.S. Department of the Interior Fran P. Mainella, Director, National Park Service Gerard Baker, Superintendent, Corps of Discovery II and Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail, National Park Service Agency representatives from the Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Geological Survey, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Bureau of Reclamation, U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and Natural Resources Conservation Service, Department of Education, U.S. Mint and other federal partners who will be hosting the touring exhibit will be available. WHAT: In conjunction with the formal Bicentennial inauguration hosted by the Thomas Jefferson Foundation at Monticello, Corps of Discovery II will host an array of special presentations from January 14 through 19 at the Tent of Many Voices including an open house and blessing ceremony on January 14.WHEN: Tuesday, January 14, 2003. 9:30 - noon: Open House for Media representatives to tour Corps II 3 p.m.: Formal Opening of Corps of Discovery II Exhibit (See following release.) WHERE: Press room at Monticello Visitor Center Education Room, Charlottesville, Va. From Charlottesville, take I-64 exit 121A south on Highway 20; the visitor center is on the right near the intersection with Route 53, which leads directly to Monticello. Corps of Discovery II is in parking lot at Monticello Visitor Center and not at Monticello proper!
