WASHINGTON -- Secretary of the Interior Gale Norton will hold a news conference on Tuesday, July 23, 2002, to discuss a proposal to list 28 species of snakehead fish as injurious species in the United States. The news conference will be held at the Department of the Interior, 1849 C Street, N.W., Washington, D.C., at 1:30 p.m. in Room 5160. The listing of a species as injurious under the Lacey Act prohibits importation and interstate transportation, unless a special permit is granted. The national implications of the potential spread of snakeheads will be discussed.
