Secretary Norton Praises Appointment of Scott J. Cameron
as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Performance and Management

(WASHINGTON) - Secretary of Interior Gale Norton today praised the appointment of Scott J. Cameron as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Performance and Management at the Department of the Interior.

Cameron's responsibilities include helping Secretary Norton implement President Bush=s Management Agenda throughout the Department. AScott Cameron is the ideal person to carry out the goal of the President=s Management Agenda, which is is to provide better value to American citizens through improved government performance and management,@ Norton said.

Immediately before joining the Administration, Cameron was Director of Government and Regulatory Affairs for CHEP. CHEP is a global leader in materials handling, operating in 38 countries to help reduce solid waste and other environmental problems while providing economic value to customers. Previously, Scott represented the Governor of California in Washington, D.C. In that capacity, he dealt with Congress and federal Executive Branch agencies on issues involving environmental, energy, and natural resource policy.

Before joining Governor Wilson=s staff, Cameron was Director of Conservation Policy at the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation in Washington, D.C., and Deputy Chief of the Interior Branch in the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), part of the Executive Office of the President. He oversaw all budgetary, legislative, and regulatory activities of the Interior Department's Fish and Wildlife Service and Geological Survey. In an earlier assignment during his five years at OMB, he oversaw the Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Water. From 1985 to 1989, Scott worked on Capitol Hill as a Legislative Assistant to former U.S. Senator Chic Hecht (R-NV). Cameron began his career in 1979 as a Presidential Management Intern in the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Washington, D.C.

After receiving a bachelor's degree in biology from Dartmouth College in 1977, Scott earned an MBA from Cornell University concentrating in natural resource economics.

He was raised in New York City, is married to Holly Meredith Horning, and has a son, Carson.
