STATEMENT BY THE DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR ON AGREEMENT INVOLVING STILTSVILLE STRUCTURES IN BISCAYNE NATIONAL PARK The Department of the Interior is pleased to have reached a settlement agreement with plaintiffs on the continued occupancy and dismissal of pending litigation over the Stiltsville structures located within the boundary of Biscayne National Park, near Miami, Florida. The agreement will allow continued occupancy of the structures until April 1, 2002, which will extend the current status of the structures for one more year. At the same time, plaintiffs have agreed to dismiss their pending litigation without prejudice. We are looking forward to the opportunity this will give the Department and the National Park Service to work with local citizens, groups and Biscayne National Park's advisory committee on a planning process that will arrive at the best possible solution for the future of these structures. -DOI-
