Babbitt to Announce Decision on California Mining Project

Secretary of the Interior Bruce Babbitt will hold a news conference at the Interior Department, Wednesday, January 17, 2001 to announce his decision on a mining project proposed on federal lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management in the California Desert Conservation Area in eastern Imperial County, California.

The mine, called the Imperial Project, is proposed by the Glamis Imperial Corporation, a subsidiary of Glamis Gold, Inc., for 1,571 acres of unpatented mining claims about 45 miles northeast of El Centro, California, and 20 miles northwest of Yuma, Arizona.
