UNITED NATIONS UNIVERSITY TO LAUNCH RECENT PUBLICATIONS, HOLD
ROUND TABLE ON PEACE-BUILDING IN IRAQ ON 11 JUNE
NEW YORK, 22 May (UNU) -- The United Nations University is organizing a launch of its most recent publications followed by a round table on post-war peace-building in Iraq, to take place on 11 June in the Dag Hammarskjöld Library Auditorium from 2:30 to 5 p.m.
The books, which will be presented by their authors, are outgrowths of the research carried out by the University's Peace and Governance Programme.� They deal with questions related to the institutional bases and diplomatic practices underpinning global governance, the theory and practice of conflict prevention, civil and military responsibilities in the rebuilding of disrupted States, and the promotion of democratization in the Middle East region.� The round table will focus on the challenges facing the international community and the United Nations in post-war Iraq.
Speakers include:
-- Andrew F. Cooper, Professor of Political Science and co-Director of the Centre on Foreign Policy and Federalism, University of Waterloo;
-- John English, co-Director of the Centre on Foreign Policy and Federalism at the University of Waterloo and Professor of History;
-- William Maley, Professor and Foundation Director, Asia-Pacific College of Diplomacy, Australian National University;
-- Amin Saikal, Professor of Political Science and Director of the Centre for Arab and Islamic Studies, Australian National University;
-- Albrecht Schnabel, Academic Programme Officer, United Nations University;
-- Ramesh Thakur, Vice Rector, United Nations University
