PRESS STATEMENT ON AFGHANISTAN BY SECURITY COUNCIL PRESIDENT
Following is the text of the press statement on Afghanistan delivered on 17 November by Security CouncilPresident Ismael Abraão Gaspar Martins (Angola):
Members of the Security Council condemned unequivocally the murder on 16 November of Bettina Goislard, a staff member for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.�
Her murder was a cowardly act by those who wish to undermine the efforts of the international community to assist the Afghan people in creating a peaceful and stable Afghanistan.
Council members called on the Afghan authorities to make every effort to bring to justice the perpetrators of this crime.�
Council members reaffirmed their full support for the work of the United Nations and its agencies in Afghanistan, often in the most difficult circumstances.�
Council members expressed their profound condolences to Ms. Goislard’s family.�
