In accordance with the principle of alphabetical rotation, the following are the President of the United Nations Security Council and the Chairman of the Military Staff Committee for October:

Security Council

John D. Negroponte, Permanent Representative of the United States, succeeds Emyr Jones Parry, Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom, as President of the Security Council.

Military Staff Committee

Major General Chen Feng (China) succeeds Lieutenant General Walter L. Sharp (United States) as Chairman of the Military Staff Committee.
