SECRETARY-GENERAL CONCERNED ABOUT POSSIBILITY OF RENEWED VIOLENCE IN VENEZUELA

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for Secretary-General Kofi Annan:

The Secretary-General is concerned about the possibility of renewed violence in Venezuela.

The Secretary-General appeals to the people of Venezuela to act with patience and moderation, and seek solutions to their differences based on the principles of democracy and the rule of law.� In this regard, he supports the efforts of the international community to facilitate a dialogue.
