In accordance with the principle of alphabetical rotation, the following are the President of the United Nations Security Council and Chairman of the Military Staff Committee for January:

Security Council

Jagdish Koonjul, Permanent Representative of Mauritius, succeeds Moctar Ouane, Permanent Representative of Mali, as President of the Security Council.

Military Staff Committee

Lieutenant General George W. Casey (United States) succeeds Air Vice Marshall John H. Thompson (United Kingdom) as Chairman of the Military Staff Committee.
