In accordance with the principle of alphabetical rotation, the following are the President of the United Nations Security Council and Chairman of the Military Staff Committee for August:

Security Council

Alfonso Valdivieso, Permanent Representative of Colombia, succeeds Wang Yingfan, Permanent Representative of China, as President of the Security Council.

Military Staff Committee

Lieutenant General John P. Abizaid (United States) succeeds Air Vice Marshal John H. Thompson (United Kingdom) as Chairman of the Military Staff Committee.
