UNITED NATIONS TELEVISION WINS AWARD AT CNN CONFERENCE
Ninth Time UNTV Has Been Honoured at Annual CNN World Report Conference
A news report produced by United Nations Television was recently honoured as the Best Science and Technology Report at the 12th Annual CNN World Report Conference.
Titled "Mongolia and the e-world", the report was on the spread of Information Communications Technology (ICT) in the Central Asian country.� The report was produced by UNTV for the CNN World Report, the news programme shown daily on CNN International and weekly on CNN/U.S.
UNTV has received nine awards at the conference over the years.� Previous awards have been for current affairs, environmental issues and financial reporting.� In 1999, a report on the plight of those missing in Kosovo received the Best On-going Issue Award.
Starting at CNN Center in Atlanta, Georgia on 28 May and ending in Washington D.C. 1 June, the Conference brought together over 200 international journalists and broadcast executives.� The conference culminated in the Awards Ceremony, featuring remarks by Mr. Bob Pittman, Co-CEO of AOL Time Warner, the parent company of CNN.� The Awards Ceremony honoured the best reports in
10 categories that were produced for CNN World Report in 2000.
UNTV produces a variety of programming on issues central to the work of the United Nations worldwide.� In addition to documentaries on a range of topics, UNTV produces "World Chronicle", a weekly current affairs programme taped at Headquarters featuring round-table discussions on topics of international concern by key United Nations officials, world-renowned experts and other well-known personalities.� UNTV also produces the series "UN in Action" which feature almost 60 short programmes (3-5 minutes) on a yearly basis presenting a wide range of political, environmental, economic and social issues set against the backdrop of the Organization's work.
