Biographical Note
NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF YUGOSLAVIA
PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

Dejan Šahovic, the new Permanent Representative of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia to the United Nations, presented his credentials to Secretary-General Kofi Annan today.
Prior to this appointment, from December 2000 Mr. Sahovic was in charge of multilateral issues in the Office of the Foreign Minister.� From 1992 to 2000, he practiced law in Belgrade and was actively involved in the efforts of Yugoslav non-governmental and civic organizations to bring about democratic changes in the country.� He also acted as a legal and political consultant, and participated in United Nations missions in Cambodia, South Africa and Tajikistan.
Although Mr. Sahovic began his diplomatic career in 1986, he left diplomatic service in mid-1992, after the break-up of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and the creation of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.� From 1986 to 1992, he worked in the Permanent Mission of the former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia to the United Nations in New York, and participated in a number of international conferences.
Mr. Sahovic graduated from the School of Law of the University of Belgrade where he studied international law and international relations.� He is married and has two sons.
