����� The following statement was issue today by the Spokesman for
Secretary-General Kofi Annan:
����� The Secretary-General has been following closely the electoral process in Ghana, which ended with the second round of the presidential elections held on
28 December.
����� The Secretary-General commends the people of Ghana and their leaders for the transparent and peaceful manner in which the elections were conducted.� With these elections, Ghana has demonstrated that democracy and its institutions continue to take root in Africa.
����� The international community should rejoice at this orderly and democratic transfer of power and stand ready to help Ghana and other new democracies consolidate their hard-won gains.
