DEPUTY SECRETARY-GENERAL OPENS COMMUNICATION WORKSHOP

United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, Louise Fréchette, today opens a three-day workshop in New York for senior United Nations officials. The workshop is designed to take forward the Secretary-General’s reform in the area of strategic communication.

The workshop, organized by the United Nations Staff College and the Department of Public Information, is an important initiative which brings together high level United Nations officials for an exchange of experience and views facilitated by media and United Nations specialists. The objective is to strengthen the United Nations communication strategies in a rapidly changing and challenging globalized media environment.

A follow-up workshop for Director-level specialists is planned for mid- December at the United Nations Staff College in Turin, Italy. The expected outcome of this workshop is the development of a new communication training programme for United Nations staff.
