NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF SWEDEN PRESENTS CREDENTIALS 20000828Biographical Note(Based on information received from the Protocol and Liaison Service.) Pierre Schori, the new Permanent Representative of Sweden to the United Nations, presented his credentials to Secretary-General Kofi Annan this afternoon. From 1999 until his new appointment, Mr. Schori had been Vice-President of the Socialist Group in the European Parliament and Head of the Swedish Social Democratic Delegation. He also served as that institution's Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and President of its Delegation for European Union-Japan Relations. Between 1994 and 1999, Mr. Schori was Sweden's Minister for International Development Cooperation, Migration and Asylum Policy, as well as Deputy Foreign Minister. From 1991 to 1994, he was Deputy Chairman of the Swedish Parliament's Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Foreign Affairs Spokesman of the Social Democratic Party. Mr. Schori's previous appointments include Permanent Under-Secretary of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1982 to 1991, International Secretary (1976 to 1982), foreign policy adviser to the Cabinet (1973 to 1976), and First Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1971 to 1972). He was a Member of Parliament for Stockholm from 1991 to 1999.
