CONCERT OF CHINESE NATIONAL MUSIC TO BE HELD IN GENERAL ASSEMBLY HALL

A concert by the China National Orchestra will be held on Thursday, 24 August, at 7 p.m. in the General Assembly Hall.

The concert is sponsored by the Information Office of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China and the Permanent Mission of the People's Republic of China to the United Nations.

The programme, conducted by Chen Xieyang, includes compositions by Zheng Lu, Liu Tieshan and Mao Yuan, He Zhanhao and Chen Gang, Wang Zhiwei and Jian Guangui, and Hu Dengtiao and Bai Daxiong, in addition to new arrangements of ancient and traditional Chinese music.

Founded in Beijing in 1960, the China National Orchestra is the largest folk music group in China, composed of a folk orchestra, a folk chorus, a composition studio and a network of accomplished instrumentalists, vocalists, conductors, composers and lyricists. Its aim is to collect, perform and promote the art of Chinese folk music. For more than 20 years, the orchestra has staged major performances in Beijing and many other countries, including the United States, the former Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, France and Japan.
