SECRETARY-GENERAL URGES IMMEDIATE END TO FIGHTING IN SUDAN

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for Secretary- General Kofi Annan:

The Secretary-General is concerned by renewed fighting in the Bahr-el- Ghazal area between the forces of the Government of Sudan and the Sudanese People�s Liberation Movement.

He urges all parties to the conflict to desist immediately from fighting, in order to save the lives of innocent civilians and to restore the humanitarian ceasefire.
