PREPARATORY COMMITTEE FOR SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT SPECIAL SESSION CONCLUDES WORK

The Preparatory Committee for the World Summit for Social Development and Beyond: Achieving Social Development for All in a Globalizing World completed the final item on its agenda by recommending accreditation for an additional 22 non-governmental organizations to the meeting.

The special session of the General Assembly will be held in Geneva from 26 to 30 June.

At its previous meeting, the Committee transmitted a draft of an outcome document containing a political declaration reaffirming the Declaration and Programme of Action adopted by the World Summit in 1995; a review and assessment of the implementation of that Programme of Action; and new initiatives and actions to implement the commitments made at the Summit.

The Committee has now concluded its work.
