SECRETARY-GENERAL EXPRESSES OUTRAGE OVER REPORTED MASSACRE ON INDIAN SIDE OF LINE OF CONTROL IN KASHMIR

The following statement was issued today by the Office of the Spokesman for Secretary-General Kofi Annan:

The Secretary-General expresses his outrage over the reported massacre of 36 Sikhs in a village on the Indian side of the Line of Control in Kashmir. He extends his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.

The Secretary-General reiterates his condemnation of all acts of terrorism from whatever quarter. The Secretary-General believed that this most recent terrorist incident in Kashmir is a reminder of the need for a political solution to this long-standing dispute.
