SECRETARY-GENERAL WELCOMES RESTORATION OF RELATIONS BETWEEN INDONESIA AND PORTUGAL

The following statement was issued today by the Office of the Spokesman for Secretary-General Kofi Annan:

The Secretary-General welcomes the restoration of relations between Indonesia and Portugal, which the two nations announced at United Nations Headquarters this morning.

He looks forward to a new era in which they will continue to work together productively, as they did this year to solve the issue of East Timor.
