MARIA COSTA PINTO APPOINTED DIRECTOR OF UNITED NATIONS INFORMATION CENTRE IN LISBON

The Secretary-General has appointed Maria Costa Pinto as Director of the United Nations Information Centre in Lisbon effective 1 November.

Ms. Costa Pinto, a national of Brazil, is currently Chief Editor of the Meetings Coverage Section in the Department of Public Information. She joined the Department in 1989 as a Press Officer.

Prior to her service with the United Nations, Ms. Costa Pinto worked as a print journalist for various Brazilian publications and as a radio producer for the BBC World Service in London.

Born in Rio de Janeiro on 19 February 1948, Ms. Costa Pinto holds a Master of Science degree in journalism from Columbia University in New York and a Master of Arts degree in Latin American studies from the University of London.
