ASSEMBLY PRESIDENT WELCOMES WITH SATISFACTION AGREEMENT BETWEEN PERU AND ECUADOR 19981026The following is a statement issued today by the spokesman for the President of the General Assembly, Didier Opertti (Uruguay), on the agreement reached between Ecuador and Peru:The President of the fifty-third session would like to express his satisfaction and joy over the agreement reached today between Ecuador and Peru, giving a global and definitive solution to territorial differences between these two countries. Apart from the great importance of this agreement for the cause of peace, not only in the region but also in the global context, the President congratulates the Governments of Ecuador and Peru for the spirit of dialogue and understanding, and the Governments of States Guarantors -- Argentina, Brazil, Chile and the United States -- for their efficient and fundamental contribution to such a satisfactory outcome. * *** *
