SECRETARY-GENERAL CONGRATULATES CAMBODIANS ON THEIR NATIONAL ELECTIONS 19980807The following statement was issued today by a spokesman for Secretary- General Kofi Annan:The Secretary-General is pleased that elections to the National Assembly in Cambodia were held on schedule on 26 July. He congratulates the Cambodian people on the overwhelming turnout of voters. He notes with satisfaction that the polling process was primarily peaceful and orderly. The Secretary-General hopes that all political parties will resolve outstanding problems through dialogue and due process. The objective should be the formation of a Government that fully reflects the wish of the Cambodian people for reconciliation, pluralism and development. * *** *
