NOTE TO CORRESPONDENTS SECRETARY-GENERAL POSTPONES WASHINGTON, D.C. TRIP

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for Secretary- General Kofi Annan:

The Security Council is expected to be considering its response to the Memorandum of Understanding negotiated between the Secretary-General and Iraq through the beginning of next week.

The Secretary-General feels he needs to be close to this process as it draws to a conclusion.

He has, therefore, decided to indefinitely postpone a long-planned trip to Washington, D.C., which was to have started on Monday, 2 March.
