SECRETARY-GENERAL MEETS WITH MWALIMU JULIUS NYERERE ON SITUATION IN BURUNDI 19960923The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for Secretary- General Boutros Boutros-Ghali:The Secretary-General met yesterday at 6 p.m. with Mwalimu Julius Nyerere. Mr. Nyerere apprised the Secretary-General of his efforts, as a facilitator, to reach a peaceful settlement of the situation in Burundi. Mr. Nyerere stated that he would continue to undertake all necessary contacts in order to bring all the parties to the negotiating table. The Secretary-General expressed the United Nations' appreciation of, and support for, Mr. Nyerere's efforts. The Secretary-General also expressed the hope that all the parties concerned would demonstrate the political will necessary to bring those efforts to fruition. * *** *
