NOTE TO CORRESPONDENTS DAG HAMMARSKJOLD EXHIBIT TO BE OPENED AT HEADQUARTERS 19960917Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali will open an exhibit about former Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjold in the northeast corner of the General Assembly Visitors' Lobby at 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday, 18 September, the thirty-fifth anniversary of Mr. Hammarskjold's death. The Permanent Representative of Sweden to the United Nations, Peter Osvald, and the Assistant Secretary-General for Public Information, Samir Sanbar, will also participate in the ceremony.* Sponsored by the Permanent Mission of Sweden and the Department of Public Information, the exhibit, entitled "Dag Hammarskjold: Markings and Milestones", features photographs and text illustrating Mr. Hammarskjold's life. The exhibit will be on display in the Visitors' Lobby through 27 September. Dag Hammarskjold was elected Secretary-General in 1953 and continued to serve until his death in Ndola (in what is now Zambia) on 18 September 1961. * *** * * The opening of the exhibit will immediately follow the traditional wreath-laying ceremony in honour of Dag Hammarskjold at 10 a.m. in the Visitors' Lobby.
