ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COUNCIL RECOMMENDS UNITED NATIONS DECLARATION ON CRIME AND PUBLIC SECURITY FOR ADOPTION BY GENERAL ASSEMBLY

CORRECTION

The second and third sentences in the third paragraph of Press Release ECOSOC/5679 of 23 July should read as follows:

"Adoption of the proposed amendment was supported by Syria, Pakistan, Iran, and Cuba, while Canada, Australia, Chile, Ireland (on behalf of the European Union), Japan, Argentina and the United States opposed it. Ghana, Malaysia, C�te d'Ivoire and Jamaica said it was not the appropriate time to renegotiate the text; rather, that should be done when it would be taken up by the Assembly."
