The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will hold the second annual EPA Science Forum entitled, "Partnering to Protect Human Health and the Environment," on May 5 to 7 in the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center, Washington, D.C. The Forum highlights the importance and role of science as a basis for environmental policy, and provides a valuable opportunity for dialogue among EPA scientists, EPA program staff, stakeholders, and the public on critical environmental issues.

EPA Administrator Christie Whitman will give the opening remarks and will be joined by James L. Connaughton, Chairman White House Council on Environmental Quality; Dr. Maureen Ison McCarthy, Acting Director for Research and Development, Department of Homeland Security; and Dr. Paul Gilman, EPA Science Advisor and Assistant Administrator, Office of Research and Development (ORD). The Forum's plenary sessions, topical breakout sessions, scientific research posters, and exhibits will focus on four themes:

-- Year of Water: 30 Years of Progress Through Partnerships -- Homeland Security -- Moving Science Into Action -- Emerging Technologies
