
Larry Makinson Joins the Center for Public Integrity as Senior Fellow 1/15/2004

Makinson, a former executive director of the Center for Responsive Politics, is a veteran television and print journalist. "Larry is one of the true pioneers in the world of tracking political influence in America," said Charles Lewis, executive director of the Center for Public Integrity. "We are thrilled he is joining the Center for Public Integrity. His addition will make our already rapidly expanding investigative and computer- assisted research capabilities a remarkably compelling asset for the Center's investigations." "The Center for Public Integrity is the premier place for investigative reporting in the nation," said Makinson. "My origins are as an investigative reporter and I'm itching to get back to that and there is no better place than CPI." As a journalist, Larry Makinson has won numerous awards, including a national award from Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE), and has pioneered the use of computers to report on political campaign contributions. He became executive director of the Center for Responsive Politics in 1998, and later served as Senior Fellow. He has authored numerous guides to campaign contributions. His latest book is Speaking Freely: Washington Insiders Talk About Money in Politics. Makinson received a BA degree in philosophy from the University of Bridgeport and a Masters of Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. The Center for Public Integrity is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that does investigative reporting and research on public policy issues in the United States and around the world.
