From: Donna Washington of the National Press Foundation, 202-663-7285; npf@nationalpress.org or http://www.nationalpress.org News Advisory: Terrorism is the biggest news and most serious threat in America since the Cold War, but translating it into local news is a frustrating challenge. That's why the RAND Corp., the nation's original "think tank" and the recognized expert on fighting terrorism, is joining the National Press Foundation (NPF) for a special one-day seminar on covering terrorism -- from a West Coast perspective. The seminar will begin sharply at 8:30 a.m. at RAND Corp. headquarters, 1700 Main St., Santa Monica, with a continental breakfast. A light lunch will also be served. Sessions include: -- Fighting Terrorists in America; Brian Jenkins, founder, RAND's terrorism research program. -- Protecting Our Borders; Jack Riley, director of RAND Homeland Security Center. -- Problems Facing Emergency Responders; Lois Davis, RAND analyst. -- Is California Ready for a Biological Attack?; Jeffrey Wasserman, RAND analyst. -- Helping People Protect Themselves in a Chemical, Biological or Radiological Attack; Lynn Davis, RAND senior political scientist.
