NEW YORK, March 25 -- For busy activists seeking a fair and balanced alternative to FOX News and the Drudge Report, the Drum Major Institute has launched The ProgBlog to provide a progressive viewpoint on the most compelling political and economic news from left to right.

The Drum Major Institute for Public Policy, originally created in 1961 by a lawyer to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., is a non-profit, non-partisan policy institute dedicated to providing progressive competition in the marketplace of ideas. We do so by partnering with top researchers to conduct high-quality research, leveraging our strategic connections and rich history to engage policy and opinion makers in our work, and offering platforms to amplify the work of progressive practitioners and thinkers. Ambassador Andrew Young Chairs the DMI Board; other members include Martin Luther King, III; Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.; Dennis Rivera and Bernard Nussbaum.

The New York Sun says of the ProgBlog: "While Bill Clinton, the former president, has lately been complaining about a dearth of liberal prose outlets and personalities, local lefties have been taking matters into their own hands..."

The ProgBlog, launched in February, is updated daily. Each Thursday, the week's entries are emailed to a fast-growing list of thousands nationally.

"We consider the ProgBlog 'predigestion for the busy progressive," said DMI President Fernando Ferrer, former Bronx Borough President and candidate for New York City mayor. "The times we live in are trying and many don't have the luxury to do due diligence on the most pressing issues of our time."
