
American Dietetic Association Brings World's Largest Meeting of Food and Nutrition Professionals to San Antonio 10/24/2003

ADA's Food and Nutrition Conference and Expo takes place Oct. 25-28 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. Ten thousand scientific researchers, dietetics professionals, policy makers, health-care providers and industry leaders will attend the ADA's meeting -- the largest annual gathering of food and nutrition experts in the world. Journalists are welcome and encouraged to attend more than 100 research and educational presentations, lectures, debates, panel discussions, media briefings and culinary demonstrations. About 350 exhibitors from corporations, government and non-profit agencies will showcase new consumer food products and nutrition education materials. "San Antonio is an ideal location for ADA and our members to meet," said registered dietitian and ADA President Marianne Smith Edge, noting that the American Dietetic Association is meeting in San Antonio for the first time since 1982. "San Antonio is a city rich in history, culture and food." "At ADA, we believe food can and should be pleasurable and healthful at the same time. While we are here, dietetics professionals will not only discuss emerging nutrition and health issues, we will enjoy the many flavors of food and customs the city has to offer," Edge said. The keynote speaker at ADA's 2003 Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo, on Saturday evening, Oct. 25, will be Dr. Dot Richardson, captain of the 1996 and 2000 Olympic gold medal-winning U.S. softball teams and vice-chair of the President's Council on Physical Fitness. The conference will also include a talk on Monday, Oct. 27, by U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Richard Carmona.
