'Report Card' on All Congressional Web Sites to Be Released; Briefing to Feature Guided "Virtual Tour" of Hill's Best on the Web

A comprehensive study of 605 House and Senate Web sites will be released on Monday, Jan. 28 at 11 a.m. at a briefing for the media and congressional staff. The report, conducted by the Congress Online Project, is the result of a year-long research project that assesses the quality of congressional Web sites and identifies the best congressional Web sites.

The briefing will include:

-- An overall assessment of congressional Web sites - a "State of the Congress Online." -- Comparison of the grades of House and Senate Web sites, broken down by party, chamber, and office type (Member, committee and leadership offices). -- Reviews and "on-screen walk-throughs" of the best congressional Web sites, who will be given the first "Congress Online Gold Mouse Awards." -- Review of common mistakes made by congressional Web sites and recommendations for improving the sites. -- Results of constituent focus groups, a survey of special interest groups, and a survey of Capitol Hill reporters as to what these groups want on congressional Web sites.

The Congress Online Project is a joint venture of the non-partisan Congressional Management Foundation and The George Washington University, funded by the Pew Charitable Trusts.
