News Advisory: When it comes to hitting the spot for fun, entertainment, discovery and more, Kansas State University is the place to be Saturday, April 3, for the All-University Open House.

This year's open house theme is "K-State Hits the Spot." From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., K-State is the spot to find out what college is really like by enjoying a variety of activities, exhibits, demonstrations, live entertainment, food and more.

Open house is free and no registration is required. Everyone is invited to explore Kansas State University's Manhattan and Salina campuses. Visitors also can meet with representatives from admissions, financial aid and scholarships, housing and other student services. Tours of the campuses, including residence halls and Greek houses, also will be available.

The All-University Open House showcases K-State's more than 200 Academic programs and nearly 400 campus organizations. Each K-State college is offering a lot of fun and interesting things to see and do. Some of the hot spots to check out include:

-- The College of Engineering, where student-built robots will battle for prizes and displays, will show how K-State is preparing students to build a better future, and the College of Architecture, Planning and Design, where 3-D modeling, animation and other technologies will be available, along with student-built furniture and projects.

-- The College of Education, where hands-on science, math, art and other educational activities will help show what it takes to be a teacher, and the College of Business Administration, the spot for learning what it takes to compete in today's global economy.

-- The College of Veterinary Medicine, the spot to see animals both exotic and domestic, as well as exhibits on the latest technology to keep pets, livestock and other critters healthy, and the College of Agriculture, where visitors can get a taste of what it takes to grow better and healthier food and explore the world of insects at K-State's Insect Zoo.

-- The College of Arts and Sciences, where math adds up to lots of fun activities, physics is hands-on and so much more; the College of Human Ecology, where students are designing new fashions, cooking up healthy snacks and inventing games for families; and the College of Technology and Aviation in Salina, the spot to learn about what it takes to be a pilot or to try out the Cat Cannon and send water balloons soaring.

Along with the many things to do and see, open house also is the spot to try K-State-made treats, such as doughnuts, ice cream, bread and cheese puffs; enjoy a hot dog at the Open Air Cafi on the Justin Hall patio; pig out on pork burgers near Mosier Hall; chow down at the pancake feed in Waters Hall; or buy cookies baked by K-State's Bakery Science Club. There also will be plenty of free, tasty treats to sample at department and student organizations exhibits across campus.

Free souvenir programs, which include a campus map and a complete Listing of the day's activities, will be available in the K-State Student Union. Most activities are indoors, so bad weather won't stop the fun. Parking is plentiful and a shuttle system will be available to take visitors across campus.

The College of Engineering will kick off open house activities Friday, April 2, with its annual open house parade at 2:20 p.m. on the main north-south campus sidewalk, followed by opening ceremonies, including the lighting of the college's open house torch, at 2:50 p.m. in front of the south entrance to Seaton Hall.
