National Sexual Violence Prevention Conference May 26-28 in Los Angeles

News Advisory:

Who: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC), in coordination with the California Coalition Against Sexual Assault (CALCASA) and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ).

What: The Third National Sexual Violence Prevention Conference serves as a national forum to raise awareness of efforts to reach those with limited access to rape prevention programs. It brings together local, state, federal and private sector sexual violence prevention partners to encourage development of programs and research to include those at highest risks.

Wednesday, May 26

-- Marcia Gillespie, former president of Liberty Media for Women, former editor-in-chief of MS. Magazine and Essence Magazine will deliver the opening keynote presentation focusing on building leadership and commitment to end sexual violence.

-- Luoluo Hong, Ph.D., MPH Dean of Students University of Wisconsin-Madison will give the luncheon plenary titled "From China Doll to Woman Warrior -- Reclaiming Personal Power on Behalf of Social Change and Social Justice."

Friday, May 28

-- Author and empowerment consultant, Elaine Whitefeather, will deliver a plenary titled "You Matter."

-- Mily Treviono-Saucedo of Organizacion en California de Lideres Campesinas will give the closing keynote presentation titled "Power of the Collective to End Sexual Violence."
