
David Bjorkman, MD Named ASGE President 5/19/2004

Bjorkman, MD, MSPH, SM (Epid), Interim Dean of the University of Utah School of Medicine. Outgoing President Christopher J. Gostout turned over the ASGE Presidency to Bjorkman in a ceremony on Wednesday, May 19 in New Orleans, LA. Dr. Bjorkman's term will run through May 2005. He served as ASGE Secretary from 2000-2003 and has served on many ASGE committees throughout his tenure and chaired the Standard of Practice Committee. "It is an honor and privilege to serve as president of the largest and most influential endoscopy society in the world. I am continually impressed by the dedicated efforts of our committee members to contribute to and advance the practice of gastrointestinal endoscopy. The Society's focus on the needs of the members will continue as we embrace new endoscopic technologies and improve patient care delivery through education, research, training and advocacy," said Bjorkman. "I look forward to working closely with our members and other GI and medical societies to educate the public and policy makers about the value and capabilities of gastrointestinal endoscopy." Dr. Bjorkman currently serves as the interim Dean of the University of Utah School of Medicine, where he is also a Professor of Medicine and the Executive Medical Director of the University of Utah Medical Group. His research interests include the economic and clinical outcomes of endoscopic therapy, gastrointestinal bleeding, and therapeutic endoscopy.
