WASHINGTON, Dec. 4 -- At a gala luncheon on Dec. 5 at Gannett headquarters in Tyson's Corner, the Metropolitan Washington Work/Life Coalition will present its 2003 Work/Life Individual Achievement Award to Margery Leveen Sher. The purpose of the award is to recognize work/life leadership excellence in the metro area. The award recognizes leaders who are catalysts for change and action, innovative problem-solvers, visionaries, initiative-takers, and master communicators.

The Coalition, established in 1995, provides its members with information and resources. It convenes quarterly conferences, sponsors research projects and coordinates special events and programs.

Margery Leveen Sher is a Principal with Caliber Associates, a management consulting firm in Fairfax, Va. She oversees Caliber's child care/work-life practice, which derived from Caliber's acquisition of Fried & Sher, Inc., a company she co-founded with Madeline Fried. Ms. Sher has been active in the field for thirty years and was instrumental in founding the Coalition as well as in the founding of the CARE awards sponsored by Northern Virginia Family Service. She serves on the Board of the Coalition and the Board of Directors of Northern Virginia Family Service. One of her current projects is working on a public/private partnership to further high quality, affordable childcare in the District. Ms. Sher regularly writes work-life articles for newsletters and journals and co-authored a book with Madeline Fried entitled Child Care Options: A Workplace Initiative for the 21st Century. She is also an accomplished speaker and presenter on many aspects of childcare and work-life.
