
GW Cardiovascular Center Works Toward Nation's Goal; 'Steps to a HealthierUS' Include Nat'l Benchmarks for Preventing, Treating Heart Disease 4/15/2003

Thompson announced today that increasing awareness for heart disease and stroke would be a focal point of the new national action plan. Heart disease and stroke are the first and third leading causes of death respectively, and are largely preventable. The physicians at The George Washington University Cardiovascular Center recognize the threat that Thompson speaks of and are committed to meeting the national goal of better cardiovascular awareness and action. The GW cardiologists are committed to not only educating their patients on the best ways to avoid heart complications, but are also involved in numerous national studies seeking to use the latest scientific findings when designing patient care. The GW Cardiovascular Center offers many services including diagnostic testing, the most up to date surgical and treatment options, informational and support services, and comprehensive rehabilitation programs. These are simply some of the offerings of the center that will work toward meeting the national action plan and improving the nation's cardiovascular health.
