On Monday, April 28, David K. Garman, Assistant Secretary at the Department of Energy (DOE) for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, will give the keynote address before the Annual Power Crops for the Americas Conference in Miami, Fla.

Assistant Secretary Garman will provide an overview of the U.S. Department of Energy's Bioenergy Program, emphasizing the importance of bioenergy and bioproducts in DOE's research and development portfolio. Garman will focus on how biomass -- forest and agricultural crop residue and feedstocks -- can be used to help replace imported petroleum and support rural development; and how important bioproducts are to the economical operation of future biorefineries.

The Annual Power Crops for the Americas Conference is jointly organized by F.O. Lichts and the Clean Fuels Development Coalition (CFDC), a not-for-profit organization that actively supports the development and production of a broad range of alternative fuels that can reduce air pollution and lessen the United States' dependence on imported oil.
