A. Wulf to announce the winners of The Draper and Russ Prizes (each worth $500,000). WHEN: Tuesday, Feb. 18 10 a.m. WHERE: National Press Building (13th Floor) 529 14th Street NW (The Zenger Room) Washington, D.C. DETAILS: The NAE awards are the world's preeminent award for Engineering. (Note: there is NO Nobel Prize for Engineering, even though Nobel himself was an Engineer.) Previous Draper prizes have gone to those responsible for such achievements as the Internet, fiber optics, communications satellite technology and the jet engine. The Russ Prize recognizes achievement within bioengineering that has significantly impacted society and has contributed to the advancement of the human condition through widespread use. It is awarded biennially. A previous Russ Prize achievement was the pacemaker. The National Academy of Engineering (NAE) is part of the National Academies, which also includes the National Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Medicine and the National Research Council. NAE members consist of the Nation's premier engineers, who are elected by their peers for seminal contributions to engineering. |
