The Infinite Mind's 'State of Mind: America 2004' Presents Art and Science of the Human Mind on Center Stage at Radio City Music Hall

NEW YORK, April 29 -- "State of Mind: America 2004," a special public radio broadcast event, will be taped live on Monday, May 3 at New York's Radio City Music Hall. This unprecedented program, hosted by Dr. Fred Goodwin, will air on The Infinite Mind, public radio's most honored and listened to health and science series, produced by the Peabody Award-winning Lichtenstein Creative Media.

Joining host Dr. Fred Goodwin on stage is actress Carrie Fisher ("Star Wars," "When Harry Met Sally,"), to read from and discuss her new novel, "The Best Awful"; the casts of the smash Broadway hits Wicked, Avenue Q and Wonderful Town, performing as part of "The Musical Mind on Broadway." Noted journalist John Hockenberry offers live commentary and correspondent Mike Wallace introduces the program.

Leading mental health policymakers and scientists will discuss new federal efforts to transform the nation's mental health care system as well as cutting-edge research on bipolar disorder. Guests include Kathryn Power, Director, U.S. Center for Mental Health Services, Robert Post, M.D., National Institute of Mental Health; Hagop Akiskal, M.D., Director, International Mood Center, San Diego Veterans Administration Medical Center; Dominic Lam, Ph.D., Institute of Psychiatry, King's College, London; Joel Paris, M.D., University of Montreal; and Stephan Heckers, M.D., Director, Schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorder Program, McLean Hospital, Belmont, Massachusetts.

The audience of 4,000 includes 3,500 psychiatrists and mental health professionals in New York for the annual American Psychiatric Association convention beginning May 1, 2004.

The Infinite Mind's "State of Mind: America 2004" airs on public radio stations nationwide (check local listings), beginning Wednesday, May 12, 2004, for National Mental Health Month. The broadcast will be accompanied by a major national educational outreach effort involving a partnership of 2000 local mental health groups and their local public radio stations. This is The Infinite Mind's third annual live "State of Mind" broadcast event.
