From: Sonia Hoffman of the Institute for Policy Innovation, 972-874-5139 or shoffman@ipi.org, Web: http://www.ipi.org News Advisory: According to a newly released report by the Dallas-based Institute for Policy Innovation (IPI) -- an independent public- policy organization -- telecommunications deregulation is the best interest of Texans who want service, innovation and competitive pricing. The release of "Time to Deregulate Wireline Communications" comes just as the Texas House Committee on Regulated Industries hosts a hearing where the future of Texas' telecom policy is to be discussed. "Technological advancements are being hampered by regulatory purview," says IPI report author Barry Aarons, who will be testifying at the Texas hearing. "Entry and exit into the markets, transmission and distribution of services and pricing should be governed by market forces, not by pervasive regulation." IPI testimony will further explain why deregulation will free up telecom companies to offer new products and services to consumers, and will encourage new job creation in Texas.
