Tax Cut Necessary for a Strong Economy, and Strong Economy Necessary for a Strong Military

DALLAS, March 25 -- The following is a statement from IPI president Tom Giovanetti on reports that Congress is considering reductions in the President's proposed tax cut:

"There is a reason why our soldiers overseas possess technology, equipment and training far superior to their adversaries. America is the strongest nation on earth because we have the strongest economy in the world. It is the research, innovation and wealth-creation in the U.S. economy that makes our military strong, and thus makes us secure."

"Now is exactly the wrong time to be backing off proposals that will further strengthen our economy. Our economy has been sluggish for too long, and it's long past time to get the economy moving through effective tax cuts. The President's proposals are right on target, and Congress should not be dissuaded by short-term events from taking the wise, long-term view."
