From: Kevin McVicker of Shirley & Banister Public Affairs, 703-739-5920 or 800-536-5920 MILWAUKEE, March 20 -- The Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation today announced the establishment of the Bradley Prizes to honor outstanding achievement by individuals in areas that are consistent with the Foundation's mission. Up to four prizes, in the amount of $250,000 each will be awarded to outstanding individuals at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. later this year. "For nearly twenty years, the Bradley Foundation has made grants to institutions that have come to us with good ideas for improving our lives and our communities. Through these grants, we have been able to support effective programs and policies. With the Bradley Prizes program, which debuts this coming fall, we will focus on the ideas that shape good public policy by celebrating the achievements of individuals in areas consistent with the Foundation's mission statement. "We will solicit nominations for Bradley Prizes from more than 100 prominent individuals involved in academia, public policy research, journalism, business and the arts from throughout the country. Those nominations will be reviewed by a selection committee, which will make recommendations to the Foundation's Board of Directors, who will award the Prizes. The names of the selection committee will remain confidential until the awards ceremony. "The Bradley Foundation strongly believes it is important to recognize and reward outstanding achievement. Through the Bradley Prizes, we will highlight individuals who have made outstanding contributions and hopefully, encourage others to strive for excellence in their respective fields," said Grebe. Founded in 1985, The Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation is devoted to strengthening American democratic capitalism and the institutions, principles and values that sustain and nurture it. Its programs support limited, competent government; a dynamic marketplace for economic, cultural activity; and a vigorous defense, at home and abroad, of American ideas and institutions. Recognizing that responsible self-government depends on enlightened citizens and depends on enlightened citizens and informed public opinion, the Foundation supports scholarly studies and academic achievement.
