From: Diane Hurns of the American Society of Safety Engineers, 847-768-3413 or 702-943-3529 (Las Vegas) or dhurns@asse.org LAS VEGAS, June 8 -- For the second year in a row the American Society of Safety Engineers' (ASSE) attendance numbers at its annual Professional Development Conference (PDC) and Exposition has broken a record. Close to 3800 people from 26 countries have registered on the first day, June 7, for the weeklong conference being held here in the Las Vegas Convention Center and Hilton, the highest attendance recorded for an ASSE PDC. Last year, 2900 people from 22 countries attended the ASSE PDC held in Denver. "We are offering timely information that is presented well. It is information the attendees can take back with them and use immediately," ASSE President James "Skipper" Kendrick, CSP, said today commenting on the record numbers. "The growth in numbers at the PDC is a continuation of what we have been seeing this year, a buildup in attendance at ASSE events such as the Construction Safety Symposium, the World-Class Safety Symposium, the Law Symposium and the Seminarfest held each January. "This also shows how committed occupational safety, health and environmental practitioners are to fostering and developing their profession," Kendrick added. ------ Founded in 1911, the non-profit Des Plaines, IL -based American Society of Safety Engineers has more than 30,000 occupational safety, health and environmental professional members located globally who manage, supervise, research and consult on safety, health, transportation and environmental issues in all industries, government, labor and education.
