Energy Secretary Abraham to Tour Genome Sequencing Facilities, Announce New Research Projects

On Thursday morning, April 24, Secretary of Energy Spencer Abraham will meet with J. Craig Venter, president of the Institute for Biological Energy Alternatives (IBEA), tour genome-sequencing facilities and hold a media availability to announce additional DOE funding for new research at the Institute.

IBEA seeks ways to use biology and genetics to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide that is released into the atmosphere by current sources of energy such as petroleum and coal. It also will seek to produce clean fuels, such as hydrogen, a key goal of President Bush, as announced in this year's State of the Union address.

Continue to the traffic light and turn left onto Shady Grove Road. Make a right at the fifth light onto Medical Center Way. At the stop sign make a right onto Medical Center Drive. TIGR is immediately on the right.
